My copy arrived yesterday and for once I managed to read nearly all of it in one go.

I found it hard to believe it was EMB for most of the book, I was gripped by the story. So refreshing to have a totally different idea for an adventure.

I felt let down at the end though, as it all seemed to fizzle out in the last chapter. I feel inclined now to buy Fardingales when I have some money.

Very glad to have it in the collection, though.

Mine arrived out herd (Grenoble) on Tuesday. I enjoyed it s good old fashioned adventure yarn.

Having read "Fardingales" and found it totally forgettable, I'm not going to bother with this one....

If I applied that to CS then after reading Redheads I would never had read Exiles.

I read "Chudleigh Hold", found it okay but not interesting enough to make me look for the others. I am not buying this book either (although I have and have yet to read "Fardingales").

I think there's a difference between giving up on a series that you have been enjoying because you don't like one book, and not bothering with a series (or a sequel) because you didn't like the first one you read.

Yes, perhaps the other book or books will be better but equally it may not be. No-one has time to read all the books in the world (not even me) and there are too many books that I want to read to waste time on, say, the Horus Heresy series when I didn't like the one that I did read.

I do take your point, but other reviews of The Susannah Adventure don't make me exactly keen to read it, either.

I enjoyed it. Some shades of Arthur Ransome, and also of Olivia Fitzroy. I wasn't conscious the whole time of reading an EBD (ie it didn't have any of her cliché phrases, nor - that I noticed - was it internally inconsistent), nor did I find the sailing jargon jarring. It was probably all wrong to those who know about these things, but it didn't strike a false note. Obviously not great literature(!), but it was worthwhile and, given that it was one I had never read (not even surreptitiously summoned from the stacks in the Bodleian) I found it quite refreshing. (I also quite like Fardingales and particularly Chudleigh Hold, so I am looking forward to the Condor Crags Adventure when GGP get round to it.)

I like Fardingales and The Susannah Adventure, also Chudleigh Hold, but not so keen on The Condor Crags Adventure and Top Secret, latter 2 combine characters from earlier ones so from a sequel pov it's nice to know what happened next to some of ghe people
