How about if Annis Lovell's Awful Aunt (?) was actually really nice? And all the other problematic parents and guardians were nice, too. Elinor would've had to invent other excuses reasons for the girls associated with them to have to attend the Chalet Shool.

What if all the parents of potential pupils had thoroughly read the prospectus and ensured the girls had attended summer schools in languages and visited dry ski slopes to see how they coped before enrolling them?

DNA testing could be used to establish whether Adrienne was actually related to Robin and solve all the other long lost relative stories.

The Mystic M take Sybil and she's never heard from again. Josette wouldn't have had that accident and Madge could have run the school instead of Miss Bubb. Of course Sybil would turn up later as a long-lost family connection.

St Scholastika's, or another school near the CS in Armishire or Switzerland, is a success, and the CS therefore has to make a big effort to improve its exam results and activities in general to make sure it still attracts plenty of pupils.

St Scholastika's school is a great success, to the detriment of the Chalet School which has to close, and CS pupils who haven't already been with-drawn by their parents transfer to St Scholastika's.

"Start a school? Jolly good idea: I'll come with you and start a boys' school next door."

(It worked in EJO's Swiss books  .)

I read "Coming of Age" long before I read "New Chalet School". I thought that Mystic M were adults and they shot at Madge with real guns.

How about that for a thriller?

Professor Richardson's space flight is successful. He is knighted on his return and next finds a planet capable of sustaining humanoid life, returning with an alien wife who outdoes Joey by producing a litter of ten lime green children. The alien wife is soon a universal favourite, sympathetic, empathetic, and with a golden voice. She becomes an international bestseller writing science fiction novels.
Joey kills her.

The Trelawneys move to Howells but due to their very limited financial resources, cannot afford the Chalet School fees. Mary Lou passes the 11 Plus and gets a place at the girl's grammer school in Armiford.

I have often wondered where their money came from and how they afforded boarding fees especially when the school moved to Switzerland

I expect Grandpapa Trelawney was a tin mine owner and made a fortune! Or Doris was an heiress? No shortage of money, apparently.

Well, considering how little they gave Mary Lou or Verity for pocket money, perhaps they put the rest in a term-deposit account to pay the fees.

Hey, do we think Matey paid interest if girls didn't spend all their money over the term?

While still pretending to be an angel-child so they have no idea who's at fault.

So the CS authorities fear the school buildings have a poltergeist, given the absence of any other explanation for all the wetted chalk, brushes in beds and broken crockery, and have to call in the local exorcist. :D
