ETA Is it this book, or another one, where they have the discussion about which badges to do and change their minds constantly?

That's in And Jo when Miss Wilson tells them off for taking on too many badges, so they have to choose and they all choose one related to water as it's summer and they wouldn't be able to do it next year otherwise.

I’m rereading this for the zillionth time, and I enjoy it. I am, though, confused by the duration of Matron’s stay. EBD says it was 2 weeks, but earlier notes that Joey had been unable to read on Sunday for 4 weeks.

The whole kidnapping scene was great when I read it as a tween, I was thrilled with the idea of a ninja dog and super disappointed with my family Pekingese for not being a St Bernard :)

The copy that I have also refers to the school being at the Aachensee in a couple of places.
