Spoiler warning: Don't read on unless you already know/don't mind hearing the plot of this book!

I’ve just read Kennelmaid Nan for the first time, and really enjoyed the way EBD managed to pack in so much information about dog training without it sounding like an info-dump, but what a strange ending! Miss Frome basically strong-arming Ralph into marrying Averil even though he’s clearly a wrong’un and the marriage is surely doooomed, and Averil being prepared to throw away her reputation to follow him even if they’re not married, and all those creepy insinuations through the book about Ralph being able to ‘get what he wants’ from the girls he’s involved with. I guess it’s supposed to be a more adult book than your average CS tale, but it seemed very un-EBD to me!

Edited to add: Oops, just realised this might be in the wrong section! Mods please move if appropriate :)

Well, technically it probably should be in Thrilling Terms, rather than here. I can move it if you wish...?

It is (potentially) a straight book discussion starter, though; just not CS.

The Board's been so quiet lately that I'm just delighted to see someone starting a new topic :D .

I've only read this one once, and that was ages ago, because it was too full of dog stuff to appeal to me , but maybe a career book was aimed at an older audience and she was deliberately making it different?
