I'm wondering if the Chalet School series will ever be available on Kindle?

I loved these books growing up. Unfortunately I no longer have any of these books. I was hoping I could find some of them on Kindle. Guess I'll have to try charity shops.

I'm not aware that any of the original editions have been published as e-books. However, Girls Gone By, who have re-issued many of the titles, have issued a very limited number of them as e-books. If you go to the Girls Gone By website: http://www.ggbp.co.uk/ebooks/ you will see which titles they published as e-books and how to order them - unfortunately they can only accept orders from the UK for them.

Thanks for replying. I don't live in the UK so seems I can't order from them!

There are often copies available on Amazon and eBay. Some of the rarer ones are quite dear, but paperback versions of the less rare ones can be very cheap - I've just had a quick look and Amazon have got quite a lot for £1 or less. If you're outside the UK then postage is obviously going to be a bit dearer, but probably still less than a Kindle book would be.

Good idea, thanks! The postage will be a bit expensive but if the copies are cheap it will be okay.

Depending where you live, there may be someone around with duplicates they can pass on. I know I have quite a few...

I expect you know this, but a lot of the earlier books were abridged for paperback. If you want a full text of the earlier ones, try to find a GGBP one or a hardback - fortunately the early ones in the series can be almost as cheap to buy in hardback as paperback, but there are some very silly high prices out there too. Good luck!

If you have/can find transcripts there are websites that you can use to convert them into Kindle friendly formats and transfer them to a Kindle that way.

Although that is against UK copyright law ...

Thanks. It's mainly the earlier books I'm interested in. I remember these bring my favourites.

Very true. I am not saying that I recommend it as a course of action.

I don't have any transcripts!

There used to be websites that gave the transcripts as Kindle-friendly files for free download.

But then GGBP bought the copyright for the series so they could publish the books and the websites were asked to cease and desist. Which GGBP was obviously within their rights to do.

So there are transcripts floating around which were downloaded before the ban.

If you can get hold of someone who has them it might be OK to email you some. It might only have been the websites making the whole lot available to the entire world that they wanted to stop.

However, I would ask make that request off the record. :D

*With Mod hat on* - transcripts are technically a breach of copyright law, and we're all good little Chalet School girls here and do not engage in illegal activity (ahem). What people may say to each other in private messages is of course entirely up to them, but please not in the actual forum!
