Can't remember which book it is, but they talk of a painting/picture 'June in the Tyrol', for a long time I wondered who June was and why they wanted her picture :?
 Cue CS pin-up calendar?

Calendar Girls crossover with the mistresses and doctors' wives stripping off to raise money for the San?

"Dear Tom. Good news: We don't need a dolls house this year. We found a new fundraiser."

I think that last comment should be in the "Lines unlikely to be found in a CS novel" thread.
As for the the CS Calendar Girls idea, if only I had time, I'd write a drabble about that. Great idea, Aquabird. Don't you want to write it?

I'm devoid of inspiration for any CS fic at the moment, I'm afraid. I think I'm a bit scunnered from doing the book discussion threads, my recent fic has been strictly non-CS, but no doubt I'll get back into it after a break. I always come back to the CS in the end. :D But if anyone else wants to pick up the Calendar Girls idea I'd love to read it, some of the comedy drabbles on here have been superb. :D

Ok so I am re reading CS in the the Oberland, just read that the girls are to go to the valley and are told " coats and skirts and hats please, and wear your walking boots" coats and hats and boots yes BUT skirts, what on earth where they wearing or not wearing that they had to put their skirts on. :o I could understand maybe change your skirt, if they had special go to town uniform

I'm guessing skirts rather than gym tunics or frocks?

A coat and skirt which matched would be what was then called a costume but we would now call a suit. This may be what she is referring to, I think we get this in one of the uniform lists somewhere

As they are at finishing school, I hadn't thought of them wearing tunics.

As the houses are kept so warm by the huge ceramic stoves, it's quite possible that they were wearing simple cotton frocks, light stockings and simple shoes.

I’ve always wondered why Len, as a Catholic head girl, is at the Protestant prayers in the later Swiss books.

I recognised Margot because of Margot Fonteyn and similarly ballet-themed I pronounced Gisela as Ji-sella from 'Giselle.' I still think Geezla is ugly. Though I know I should say (or rather think) Tekla rather than Thekla - I can't.

There's a possible apocryphal story of Margot Asquith meeting the American film actress Jean Harlow and correcting Harlow's mispronunciation of her first name – "No, no; the 't' is silent, as in 'Harlow'."

Because Len is the first Catholic Head Girl since Gisela (Gertrud and Robin don't count, since we never see them functioning as HG), and the Head Girl has to read the lesson. The school might have collapsed had such a tradition been broken!

And it supports Joey's ecumenical veiws, and prepares Len for her marriage to someone who wasn't Catholic.
