Following on from the thread about CS characters tv and netflix choices, I started wondering..... If there was a TV adaption of the CS series, who would play the various characters, or what would they look like?

I imagine Nell Wilson to be rather like Stephanie Cole as she was in 'Tenko', with a similar personality.

A younger Hilda would be Emilia Fox as she was in 'Ballet Shoes.'

I wish I could find the Mumsnet posts on this, because they were doing a fantasy CS casting. Michelle Dockery was suggested for Joey. She's got a beautiful singing voice, so she could pull it off. And that girl from GOT who plays Sansa Stark could be Len, maybe? Or is she too ginger?

Young Rita Tushingham as Young Joey.

Yes, I like the idea of Stephanie Cole as Nell. Might Zoe Wannemaker suit one of the characters? I’m bad with reading the physical descriptions in the books, but feel she’d be good character wise for a couple of people.

Eek, I think Zoe Wanamaker would work far better as Nell than Stephanie Cole!

Actually, I just remembered I don't look at this thread because I have discovered my ideas don't really tie in with any else's :D

I know they can do alot with wigs and contact lenses, but is Emma Watson blonde and blue-eyed enough for a young Mary-Lou?

Mary-Lou is blonde? I always pictured her with light mousey brown hair

I picture her as mouse - light brown with golden highlights.

In Three Go she has 'short fair plaits' which means blonde to me - not in the same league as Wanda, Marie etc though. Her hair does turn to brown later.

At that time 'fair' was the polite term for 'mouse'. I had what everyone called 'fair hair' as a child, but could never have been described as blonde.

On the cover -second edition I think - where ML is in a blue gingham frock on the beach with Clem - she is definitely blonde.

In the book where she has her accident her hair is light brown with glints of gold. Whatever colour it is, it is definitely not dark but hair can always be dyed if the actress was not fair.

Edited to add - I think Zoe Wanamaker too different and exotic for anyone CS.

What about Keeley Hawes for Joey (looks toned down) and Laurence Fox for a young Jem? Younger Maggie Smith for Nell? Younger Angela Lansbury Hilda?

Hopefully more representative of the book than the original cover ... :D

I'd've put Keeley Hawes down as Madge :D .

Isn't she very tall? I would have thought someone softer looking for Madge but I cannot think of anyone.

Edited to add - She is not as tall as I thought she was - more Jo's height instesd of several inches taller.

Yeah, she could also do for Madge!

Anna Maxwell Martin could be Miss Stewart, maybe? Red hair suits her (thinking of South Riding).
