I hope this will be a bit like an Advent Calendar. I’m going to try and post a link to a quiz from FunTrivia every day from now until Christmas. If you get bitten by the quiz bug and decide to sign up we’d be very pleased to have you on our (currently very select) team. Just send me me a note over there, and I’ll let you have an invitation. Alternatively, you could join our daily quiz, which was started over ten years ago by Fatima.

So, here's the first one. None of us would be here (on the CBB) today if it weren’t for the writings of one person. How much do you know about EBD’s life?

It's already the second of December in the Antipodes, so here's another quiz.

Many Christmas traditions involve making and eating special foods. Do you think the Chalet girls would have learnt enough at school to prepare them for this? This quiz might make you wonder.

Thanks for posting these, Lottie. If the Boy-Cat will just stop trying to help me (this is the fourth time I've typed this), I'll try the first one, having got 8/10 for the second!

Thanks, Noreen.

Here's the third one.

A holiday trip to Austria inspired EBD to write the first of what became a very long series of books about the Chalet School. This quiz will test your knowledge of the country.

A Christmas Nativity play was performed almost every year of the Chalet School’s existence. Although the plays became longer later on, all of them finished with the story of the first nativity, which would almost certainly have been based on the account in the Bible. How well do you know the story?

A favourite book of the Chalet girls was Louisa May Alcott’s ‘Little Women’, so they would have no trouble identifying the characters in this quiz.

With pupils from many countries in Europe and elsewhere in the world, how many of these traditions do you think they would have observed in their Christmas celebrations?

I too am enjoying them Lottie though was a little taken aback to find I seem to know more about Little Women than CS related topics!

Thanks, Jan and Gil! Here's the next offering.

The young Joey Bettany was obsessed with Napoleon. I’m sure she’d have had no trouble with this quiz.

I'm glad there's someone else! My scores for non-CS are 100%. I'd like to gloss over one of my CS scores....

If I was taken aback to find out that I know more about Little Women than the CS, I was shocked to find out how much I know about Napoleon!!

Thank you Lottie, this is fun.

I'll second that. I scored well on Napoleon - mostly thanks to the clues given. :)

Me three. I know nothing about Napoleon but still managed a decent score - if the question says"country" and only one choice is a country...

I'm glad you're enjoying the quizzes - I've tried to select a mixture of different ones, all with a (possibly tenuous) CS link.

From its earliest days, music was an important part of the Chalet School. Quite apart from the instrumental prowess of Margia Stevens, Jacynth Hardy and Nina Rutherford, who could forget the St. Clare’s orchestra? How many of these instruments were played by Chalet girls?

7/10 which is good for (almost) pure guess-work

I got 10/10 for that, but that's far and away the best score I've had on all the quizzes so far. Thanks, Lottie, I'm really enjoying trying my hand at them.

I managed 10/10 for Little Women

Here's another one. It's good to know that people are enjoying the quizzes.

Despite weather-wise Miss Wilson’s forecasts, the girls of the Chalet School seemed to experience more than their fair share of misadventures when out enjoying the snowy weather. Perhaps the answers provided in this quiz might have helped prevent any problems.

The continental girls, in the early days of the Chalet School, all seemed to be excellent needlewomen, and were horrified by the lack of ability displayed by many of the English and American girls. Maybe this quiz could inspire some of them to greater efforts.
