"We've had so many old girls come forward for the Maths position that we've had to whittle the list down to a handful and we'll be giving them trial lessons with a small group of students. The group we pick will be asked for feedback on each teacher."

The near-centenarian Dame Joey Maynard watched the Queen's 90th Birthday celebrations with interest. She thought of her multitude of unmarried great-grand-daughters and sighed. Such a pity that Prince Harry wasn't a doctor.

"We really must stop hiring Old Girls as mistresses," Hilda Annersley sighed. "They simply don't understand our ways."

'However,' continued Hilda Annersley, 'you will all be delighted to know that another of our Old Girls will be joining us to teach Latin, Greek and Clock-making. Dr Benson will begin to teach at the beginning of next term.'

A certain edge when she spoke of Mrs Maynard, certainly, but, after all, not everyone could love Joey.
'Life,' said Marvin, 'don't talk to me about life!'

The new girl huddled deeper into her furs as she stared out of the window at the clouds massing in the sky, "Winter is coming" she said in gloomy northern tones.

"You know nothing Mary-Lou," added Con.

"Oh, just throw your covers down anyhow," Len Maynard told the new girl breezily. "Matey never minds how we make our beds."

"And don't bother about keeping your drawers tidy," Con added seriously. "All the matrons show total respect for our personal space. They never come nosing through our things."

"No, never," Margot agreed, carefully arranging her growing collection of Mills & Boon novels on the shelf near her bed.

[From the scene in Rivals, when the girls from St Scholastika's have sneaked out to go skating one evening and are on breaking ice]

"Jo, you skate better than most of us - you and Frieda! Buck up, and skate across and tell them!"
"No jolly fear!" declared Jo. "I've seen one of the later books, and Our Author has Maureen Donovan die young anyway, so I'd be risking my life for nothing!"

Kathy Ferrars stared thoughtfully at a single line of Mary Lou's history coursework "Additionally, the Vietcong would often make crude booby traps typically involving a hoe filled with sharpened shrapnel," After a moment she picked up a pen and neatly added the missing letter.

A student has just sent me their coursework which includes the above sentence.
