Ways bookshop in Henley on Thames has a few Abbey books at the moment. They are in the £1 each area

I don't know if they'll still have any left, but Scarthin's in Cromford had quite a few in their second hand childrens' books section (which is slightly hidden away) a few months ago. I'll have to go back sometime to see if they have any CS

The Petersfield Bookshop (Chapel Street, Petersfield) sold me three Chalet School Hardbacks today. And a fourth, "reduced because of water damage".

The shop did have a number of CS: From the the-too-expensive-for me- (Joey&Co) to the good value HB (ugh - was it "And Jo" or "Jo Of with photocopied dj for £5)

My companion got several books and a print.Very happy at the quality and cost.

Not "Bargains" but good value plus worth bothering to visiting

I was in The Fifteenth Century Bookshop in Lewes today. They had a number of EBD books on display - and just happened to have another box-and-a-half that had just come in and hadn't been sorted (plus some Violet Needham)

I've come away with 10 EBD,

Prices are around £12.50 for reprints without dj, £40 for reprints with original dj, £30; first edition without dj and £100 for first editions with dj. There were some GGBP as well but I don't know what they cost.

If anyone is in Inverness. I was in Leaky's yesterday, and they have a fair sized children's section which is almost all girl's and boy's own. There were some EBDs, EJOs, violet needham and Dorothea Moore. Not particularly cheap but if you're passing it's a fun place to have a rummage in.

Yes! In all fairness, it is the jacketed first editions she prefers not to have handled. I was permitted to go through the boxes by myself and pick out the books of interest

Also she does sell pony books cheaply to the local youngsters as she says it is a good way to get them hooked on reading.

I was in Any Amount of Books on the Charing Cross Road today and they seem to have had a delivery of children's books. I got an MEA (and a cheap non GO hardback) but they also had a lot of EB hardbacks and a few DFBs. Lots of pony books too.

I haven't read through all this thread to check whether the following shop is mentioned but on August Bank Holiday Monday I'm trying the following, even though it is a bit of a distance from me (it popped up on Facebook this morning):

The Oxfam Bookshop in King's Heath, Birmingham, has a shelf of CS Armadas at 99p each.

They don't have any of the later books (the ones that were unabridged) - these are the ones that were quite commonly available.

Whilst I was In West Sussex recently, I went into "The Book Den" in Burgess Hill for the first time.

This is is a charity book shop run by the local Lions club. There's two cases of "old" books and I got "Frenchman's Secret" by Monica Edwards in the CBC ediion with dj for £2 and a couple of "Victory" books at 50p. They had some EB and Bunter as well.


The pricing is very reasonable. The standard prices are £1 for adult books and 50p for children's books with some books being separately priced. The "contemporary" stock was all in very good condition.

If you are in the area, it's worth a visit. The address is Church Street in the main shopping area and it's very close to the Tourist Information bureau (which is sign-posted)
