The weather behaved long enough for me to go to the Lake District, somewhere which always makes me feel happy. It must have been nice going to a school by a lake :D.

I'd feel happy there too. Lovely and sunny here today even if the wind was a bit chilly.

There is something about being near water - used to live near a lake and now live in a village with a river running through. Makes you very aware of the weather and the seasons. Last year we had floods , the year before drought. In a very small way compared to places that have earthquakes, tsunamis, etc, it puts into perspective our place in the scheme of things compared to nature.

I'm afraid that I have to smirk over that one. Our town had a Flood Alleviation Scheme installed in 2011-13. It hasn't been tested by a severe flood yet,but I'm hoping that it means that we councillors will not have to be setting a good example to others by heaving sandbags around on the Causeway.

I have just eaten a very odd dinner. It was all fine until you got to the sweet potato and parsnip mash. Which tasted rose flavoured. Like, turkish delight, or rose flavoured tea. Really quite surreal and even more so because we have no idea how it happened! I mean, rose is quite a specific flavour! The only rose flavoured thing we have in the house is some rose tea, which no-one has drunk for a good couple of weeks. It was actually more or less edible, though I don't think it'd past muster on masterchef...

That's something I'd never eat, Abbey, as I loathe and abhor parsnips.

Just a hangover from my days of eating school dinners.

I had school dinners for a week after moving house and not being able to go home at lunch time any more. I was sick every day as soon as I so much as went into the dining room. The next week my parents changed my school so that I could get home at lunch time. That week has to have been the most miserable of my life. Luckily when I went to secondary school a year later we were allowed to take sandwiches, otherwise I would have had to give up my technical school place and go to the secondary modern just up the road. There was absolutely no way I could face a school dinner again.

The worst thing was that on marrow and parsnip days, the very strict and stern Head of History used to insist that the vegetable dishes were taken up to the platform for inspection.

That meant that the M&P that absolutely no-one ate was taken out of the back door of the hall crammed onto two plates.

Well, the dishes were empty.

Not related to any of the above posts, but I'm very happy to report that I have normal hearing again. I had my ears syringed on Monday and I can't believe the difference it's made! :D

In fact, my hearing is a bit too acute for my comfort at the moment.
