Well, that's a bit weird. I wonder what kind of a driveway one would need to park six vans. There's someone across the street from us who has a tonne of building stuff - diggers and that - that they used to build the cul-de-sac, but at least they don't have six flipping vans! What would they use them all for?

Deliveries, possibly? Or operating some kind of service like landscape gardening or block paving that takes more than a worker with a few basic bits of equipment?

As it happens, our next door neighbour is a car dealer, but he wouldn't be soiling his hands on vans - flash/ expensive stuff from the top end of the market is more his line. He even had a bright yellow Humvee at one point, which is a real gas-guzzler, but cheered up the street no end.

One wonders quite how he planned to deliver six vans? On a giant transporter presumably?

I presume so - I didn't go and look, as I was cooking lunch, so we'll probably never know...

Before turning the house upside-down and then trying to re-trace his steps the previous day searching for SLOC's wallet, ask him if he has looked in the secure, zipped pocket of his new trousers!

Loved this one! Went through something similar with 10-year old son recently, moving heaven and earth to find his cherished pocket knife he got for Christmas. Found it eventually in the back pocket of his favourite trousers when they went in the washing machine.

This could, one one occasion, have been re-written as "Before calling your girlfriend from a phone box to tell her that you've lost your mobile phone, try calling it!" I happened to recognise the area code for the missed call from the phone box as being an Oxford number, and, knowing he was doing site work there, called his phone to check he hadn't done anything to himself. He was extremely sheepish as he explained that he had been calling to tell me he had lost his phone, but when I rang it, he realised it was in his pocket.

To be fair, it was a new phone, and quite a bit thinner than his last one, but still...

If you're using a template, please fill in the appropriate sections. It does not make a great impression when someone receives an e-mail or letter addressed to "Dear First Name" .

On the same note, Alison, I do wish forms would give me the option of being Mrs. Filling in a form to rent a holiday apartment, I was offered Mr or Ms. I was sorely tempted to tick Mr.

I on the other hand, object to being addressed as Ms. Though it's marginally better than Mx and other strange variants that crop up these days.

It's worth taking a moment to check your WhatsApp message before you send it, otherwise your autocorrect will give your sister the impression that you have a hedgehog named Himmler.

I prefer Mx to any of the other ones, though that is definitely personal preference.

I had to revert to my professional title when dealing with banks, building societies etc. Mother and I have the same initial and no-one seemed able to read. It's being called "Mrs" as default which put my back up.

I personally choose Ms, because I don't particularly want to state my marital status every time I fill in a form. Really, I think the box should just be empty so that people can put in whatever they choose!

:D it was actually my sister sending the message to me. She'd found a hedgehog in her shed and she was trying to ask "should I put a blanket over him?"
If it stays long enough she'll probably call it something stunningly originally like Prickles or Spike

That wouldn't really have helped me, Lizco, as they wanted my title so they could send information. :D

But I do really object to being Ms. And there was no facility to be a Miss. Do Misses not rent apartments?
