I've just finished reading Perception by Terri Fleming. it's a Pride and Prejudice sequel, mainly about Mary and Kitty, though with visits to the Bingley and Darcy families. I'm not usually very keen on this sort of sequel, but I did enjoy this, I think it captures Jane Austen's style very well,

Bath Tangle wasn't a favourite when I first read it. I daresay I've forgotten a lot of it, but all I can remember is Serena and Rotherham constantly bickering, and him being much too overbearing for my taste. GH usually does a better job of showing why her couples are right for each other.

Exactly. I suppose you could say that they deserve each other, but they're still irritating, at least to this reader. Nothing like Charles Rivenhall and Sophy Stanton-Lacy here! I love Mrs Floore, but I'd like to give most of the rest of the characters in BT a good shake...

I have just finished a read through of all of the Dick Francis novels. That occupied January nicely, now to find something for February.

He's improved as he's gone on, I think. Not as good as Dick was at his best, but I get them from the library and they're certainly good enough to pass a few hours with.

I've just finished Sandry's Book, the first Circle of Magic book by Tamora Pierce... it was so good and I will definitely be reading lots of her books in the future. I can't even express how much I loved the character of Tris :heart:

I've just been ploughing my way through all the Charlotte Macleod books on Kindle Unlimited. They are as daft as I remembered them. Max Bittersohn and Sarah Kelling and her batty relations are my favourites I think, closely followed by the Peter Shandy books and the Madoc and Janet Rhys ones.

Not sure if this is the best place to post this - and I may put it somewhere else as well, but Lucy Magnan's piece in today's Guardian is well worth reading.

Not strictly GO books, but so many others which I'm sure will have many of us 'oldies' at least, wallowing in nostalgia!!

Thank you Elder - I thoroughly enjoyed that and agreed wholeheartedly with the sentiments. I love reading childhood and more recent favourites

I'm re-reading the four Adelia Aguilar mediaeval mysteries by Ariana Franklin. Just started the second, The Death Maze. I love these books, they'd make great films/tv. Her Berlin thriller, City of Shadows, is the best Anastasia mystery I've ever read. I liked some of her Diana Norman books too, but not as much.

I'm reading Queens Of The Conquest by Alison Weir at the moment. It's about the first queens of England; and though I only started it yesterday I'm about seven chapters in; it's packed full of interesting facts

Currently enjoying the Shetland Sailing Mysteries series by Marsali Taylor. The heroine is a competent young woman and the mysteries are OK, but what I really like is the descriptions of sailing and of the Shetlands. The author clearly knows her stuff and puts it across without sounding like a guide book. I've learned a lot about the Shetland Islands from these books.

If you are a Dorothy Whipple fan, Persehone Books have just published Young Anne. It ws her first book and is the final one to be published by PB. I had read it as a teenager as my mother had a copy. I went to the shop on Saturday and got a copy for myself aand another for older daughter's birthday. I spent the weekend reading it and can recommend it.

Goodness, that rang a bell. I knew I'd read at least one Dorothy Whipple when I was a teenager, but couldn't remember which. Young Anne is the one. Must read it again sometime, thanks, Jenefer!
