Correct.

And I have always been uncomfortable covering a term that another fill-in author has already covered, for what it's worth...

I remember you said that once before, but I can still live in hope!

The Lost Staircase is being republished in August.

Do I or do I not need to spend £13 on this ... it's one I do really like :D .

They are doing Gwendoline Courtney Stepmother too - I have Elizabeth of the Garret theatre which was its later title - does anyone kow if that was abridged or otherwise changed? I'd be interested to know before thinking about buying Stepmother

According to a post on Facebook answering the same question, GGBP have confirmed that "Elizabeth of the Garret Theatre" was not abridged.

The first tim ethey published The Lost Staircase it sold out within a week. I ordered it from them, and got an apologetic email, explaing that it had sold out much quicker than they had expected. I ended up getting it from one of the dealers - though I don't remember who.

Given that record, I'm suprised they left ti this long before reprinting it.

A new fill-in, The Chalet School Annexe by Adrienne Fitzpatrick, has been announced for November publication. It’s set the same term as Exploits

Woo-hoo!

Highland Twins is being reprinted! I only have the paperback, and that's been severely cut.

Now I have to contain my enthusiasm until October at least ...

It sounds interesting, and writing about the annexe, which EBD only really mentions in passing gives her a lot more freedom than fill-in writers normally have. One the other hand, it will mean a lot of new characters, and most of the girls at the Annexe were ten or under - I think that Robin was one of the oldest, even though Amy should have been older than her... It will be hard to develop the characters of children that age so that they are srtong enough to really carry the story. There will probably be a lot of focus on the staff, the chance to see Grizel begin to settle into a teaching job that she never wanted (though maybe the chance to come back to the place she regarded as home compensated to some extent) and the chance to give Madge a more prominent role again and maybe a few scenes with Eustacia.

Probably not an easy book to write, but if she has done it well it should be interesting to read.

Adrienne writes a lot better than I do, but I did try to write something covering the Annexe's first term. It's in the archives somewhere, or you can find it here.

I've got an old Highland Twins hardback so won't be buying the GGBP version, but I'm glad they're doing it because the abridged version massacred the book. When I read the unabridged version, I was amazed at how much stuff got cut out!

The one I'm really gunning for is Theodora because I've only got the abridged version, and it's very hard to track down an unabridged copy that doesn't cost the earth.

I was quite lucky got 3 hardbacks, Theodora, Trials and another swiss one for £90 off ebay a few years back (and didn't confess to my husband I'd spent nearly £100 on three books, all of which I already owned - somehow it seemed far more than £30 each)

Still yet to match my ebay bargain of a 1st edition School at, complete with the 4 NKB plates for £13.50
