Someone posted this on one of the facebook sites, and I thought it could be a useful resource for drabblers. It’s a list of the top ten bestsellers from 1918 to 2018

Even though it’s the US, there are Americans at the school and it could give an idea of likely books, or types of books people might be reading, but also maybe give an idea of the type of things people found interesting enough to buy at the time, which might help with character or story ideas.

I love the fact that Gone With The Wind and Forever Amber both topped the lists in their respective years of publication. I think the UK lists would probably be quite different, but there are a quite a few of my all-time faves in there even so .

wow, thanks Beecharmer and Alison for the link, what a fascinating resource that is - I'm always on the lookout for new books to find and read from earlier times. I'll draw the line at Zane Grey, though!
