Oh, OWWW, Jools! Crossed paws that you heal fast.

(And I thought I did well recently to trip on the front path and merely collide rather hard with the door - bruised face and sprained fingers).
Edited to amend Jools' name to the correct spelling - sorry about that!

Thank you Noreen. Not looking forward to the dental visit - but it could have been much worse!

Thanks, exile - one finger is still swollen, but that's about all. Nothing to compare with Jools's list of injuries, anyway...

I took the dog to the vet last Tuesday (after walking from the car park to pick up a friend from work). While crossing the road at the traffic lights, caught my foot on the tarmac, staggered twice and fell flat in front of the traffic. I didn't let go of the dog, but the result is one cut chin, one huge bruise on the left side of my face and a broken wrist. I thought I'd only sprained it, so was going to work the next day - until my friend's Dad turned up and insisted on taking me to the hospital. I'm now off work for 6 weeks and, because we're having building work done, ALL my books and clothes are packed away and ungetatable. I'm going to be climbing the walls by mid March, cos the TV and internet are iffy as well........!!

Ouch! You poor thing. Wishing you a speedy recovery and the hope that the internet behaves itself for you. Being without books in a period of enforced idleness is purgatory.

Enforced idleness with no diversions is adding insult to injury! Hope you get well soonest, and can borrow some books. It's worth trying to find out if there are any alternative sources if getting library books is not practical - some GP practices and NHS clinics have them. If your GP doesn't, perhaps you could persuade them to start one with donated books, as ours did.

I had to cancel my plans last Sunday because of Storm Chiara. Now it looks as if both this Saturday and this Sunday will be ruined by Storm Dennis. Yesterday it was dry and sunny. Today looks like being the same. This is not much help when I (and most other people) will be trapped in a depressing office all day. I do know that moaning about the weather is one of the most pointless things ever, but I could cry ... I am struggling quite a bit at the moment, and being able to get out into the countryside/seaside at the weekend is the one thing that really helps (especially in snowdrop season, which will soon be over without my having seen much!).

Why do the storms pick weekends? It's like they do it on purpose!

Yes, and without wishing to be the voice of doom, today's weather forecast mentioned another storm will be heading our way next weekend! I have that booked off and had hoped for at least dry weather.

Oh no!!

My birthday’s this month, and, whilst I’d quite like to forget about it at my advanced age    , I’d planned a nice snowdrop walk to mark it. I’m going to be trapped in work on the day, but I had last Sunday and both days this weekend free, thinking that surely one day out of three would be OK, even if it was light rain. Instead, we had torrential rain and gales last Sunday, and the same’s forecast for both days this weekend. Even if you’re willing to brave the weather, all the parks and gardens are shut because of the risk of falling trees. Sorry to moan, but it’s so frustrating, when Wednesday and Thursday were both dry and sunny!

Very frustrating. For you and for me as I am working over the weekend and so have to go out in whatever weather we get. So let's hope the weather is unexpectedly good.

I rather think that weather forecasters have learned to look on the gloomy side - nobody really minds if the weather is better than forecast, but few of us are happy with the reverse situation!

They've not been too gloomy about here tonight. My daughter is insisting on coming to support me for the fifteen steps from Rose's front door to ours lest I get blown over. Those who have met me will know that I am no featherweight...

Nice thought, though - Butterfly's solicitousness, not the idea of your being blown over, of course!

Yesterday was pretty grim, but I managed to reschedule the hair appointment booked for next week to yesterday, so at least that was time spent usefully, and then today wasn't that bad in the end, so I have got to see some snowdrops - hooray!

It looks as if Herefordshire/Armishire hasn't been so lucky, though  .

Alison, you mentioned elsewhere that Hay-on-wye had been hit badly. Do you have more detail on what's happenimg down at every bibliophile's favourite border town? I was going to write considered response to your post about extreme weather, but this Kindle I'm using has an autocorrect I can't seem to switch off and it keeps changing bibliophile to Columbia - what's that about?

I have joined the ranks of the ill with man-flu. I am self-medicating with lemsip and 80s Trebizon paperbacks. It seems a shameless place what with boys involved - and they don't even properly differentiate Protestants and Catholics. :D
